The Via Pontica Foundation, together with the Municipality of Burgas, took part in the initiative of the American brand “Patagonia” and a number of non-governmental organizations to protect the last free-flowing rivers in Europe.
Last night, citizens of Burgas and guests of the city watched together the movie “Blue Heart” on the open stage “The Snail”, Sea Casino Bourgas. The location, of course, was not selected by accident. The screening was part of the global campaign “Save the Blue Heart of Europe”, launched in 2012.

The distribution of the “Blue Heart” movie began on April 28, 2018. The World Premiere took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by screenings on the Balkan Peninsula and most major cities around the world.
According to recent studies, the Balkans are the only region in Europe where the rate of untouched rivers is still high. About 30% of them have a completely natural character. The “Blue Heart” tracks the efforts of local residents to conserve in the face of the interests of energy lobbies in Europe and the banks that fund them.
The film documents the battle for the conservation of the Albanian River Vjosa, the largest wild river in Europe; efforts to save the threatened Balkan lynx in Macedonia, as well as fighting the women in Krushchitsa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, protesting day and night to save the only source of drinking water for the local population.
The screening was attended by representatives of Burgas Municipality, Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection at “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov” University, a number of non-governmental organizations and awake citizens. During the spontaneous discussion, the whole audience united around the idea of a general picture to send to the brave women in the village of Krushchitsa.
Here is an example of how to defend meaningful causes, not with arrogance, but with reasoned arguments and empathy.
